I am most comfortable in my commitment to my profession as an educator and desire to improve my performance. In the beginning of my career as a student studying to become an art teacher, I would get very discouraged when I ran into a complication to the point where I would doubt myself and want to give up. As I continued onto my upper-division and to my student teaching experience, I learned that no teacher is perfect and new teachers make many mistakes, but as educators we must grow to become successful in teaching students. Throughout my student teaching, I attended 6 professional development days ("Seeks opportunities to further own learning") where I learned how to teach in front of other staff members, facilitate multicultural clubs and attend opportunities to expand my knowledge in different medium. I have gained confidence in that I will continue to grow as I become an art teacher because I am truly passionate about sparking the creativity in everyone of my students.
I also feel like I approach "situations with an open mind". I'm not going to sugar coat things, it was very difficult moving to remote learning and finding out that the second half of my student teaching would not be in the classroom. Even though we had to make this tough transition, I remained optimistic and focused my lessons on how to be "positive". Instead of letting the pandemic get to me, I used my talents and technology experience to help my specials team and teach in the elementary school.
I am so excited that I will be working at Eaglecrest High School (where I student taught). Since I've had the opportunity to already work in the school, I've developed some goals and ideas of what I want to contribute. I want to "demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness" when I go back to Eaglecrest where I create a program that students can sign up to become leaders in the community and volunteer with our feeder schools. Over all, I think that I am accomplished in terms of the professional dispositions, I am so excited to teach and will continue to grow professionally. I put an incredible amount of effort and heart into my student teaching and can't wait to teach full time. I would not be where I am today if it weren't for my incredible mentors through CSU and Eaglecrest/Arrowhead along the way.
