1. What two dispositional areas do you feel very comfortable with and why?
I am most comfortable in my commitment to my profession as an educator and desire to improve my performance. In the beginning of my career as a student studying to become an art teacher, I would get very discouraged when I ran into a complication to the point where I would doubt myself and wanted to give up. As I continued onto my upper-division education classes I learned that no teacher is perfect and new teachers make many mistakes but as educators we must grow to become successful in teaching students. I have worked on maintain my growth mindset and I will encourage my students to have this mindset as well instead of getting discouraged when something doesn't go a certain way. I have gained confidence in that I will continue to grow as I become an art teacher because I am truly passionate about sparking the creativity in everyone of my students.
2. What is one dispositional area you want to focus on during your student teaching semester?
During my student teaching semester, I will focus on improving in becoming an effective educator to ensure that my students are understanding what I want them to learn and know what I am looking for when assessing their learning. Effective communication is very important and I especially need to work on my oral communication because sometimes my thoughts get ahead of my words leaving students confused.
3. Any other thoughts about Professional Dispositions related to you being a successful educator
During this semester I took a women in art history class which has taught me a lot about the importance of including artists of different backgrounds into the conversation. I have done a lot of reflecting about how I will include artists from a variety of cultures, race, sexual orientation and gender in my curriculum to encourage all individuals that they have the capability of becoming a successful artist regardless of background. Cultural responsiveness is a very important aspect that I want to continuously incorporate in my lesson plans to ultimately work towards a future of equality where marginalized people have more voice.
