"Art is a place for children to learn to trust their ideas, themselves and to explore what is possible." -Maryann F. Kohl.
My philosophy of education is that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create the type of atmosphere where students can discover their full potential through art and how learned skills can be used to serve others and make a community impact. Through rigorous and cultural relevant learning experiences in art, my students will have the opportunity to become leaders who can contribute to the betterment society. I want my students to develop creativity and problem solving skills that can transfer to other facets of their life. As a teacher, I prioritize creating a safe, inclusive and equitable environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take risks.

To create meaningful art, students need to be interested in what they are creating. The first and most important part of my teaching is to create and build relationships with the students. Having a positive relationship with your students not only creates a positive and healthy classroom environment, but also gives insight to what your students are interested in learning, thus creating meaningful artwork they are proud of. I believe in a balance of choice and building skills. The person making all of the decisions, is the one doing all of the learning. Once the students have gained the knowledge of conceptual materials and skill building, we can teach them to break the rules. A healthy balance of choice to me means that you have a place and foundation provided for the students to build upon and explore what they are interested in.
